First Aid Attendant (Paid)

QUALIFICATIONS:
Occupational First Aid Level 3 or Wilderness First Aid Certificate
DUTIES:
Participate in required training components and courses as required by the Camp Grafton Society
Participate in camp preparation (two weeks prior to start of summer program)
Participate in program planning prior to camp opening.
Work all 5 weeks of camp
Before camp begins, check the camp facilities and set up a first-aid station and a sick room
Develop, implement, and evaluate emergency procedures in cooperation with other staff
Be on the camp site at all times while campers are there
Monitor and adjust the level of chlorination in the water supply
Ensure that there are adequate first-aid supplies, replenish needed supplies as necessary
Ensure that there is a safe place to store and lock up all medications
Arrange to have a car for emergency use
Review the camper application forms with the Program Director and take note of all health details. Note any allergies or conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, or special diets. Prepare to pass on relevant health information to the appropriate staff members in consultation with the Program Director.
At the time of the camper’s registration, collect all medications from the parents or campers and a copy of the campers’ registration containing any pertinent medical information.
Administer First Aid, where necessary, and if further treatment is needed, inform the director immediately and arrange for transport to hospital or to the camper’s home.
Develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate procedures for washing dishes and for the sanitary handling of food in consultation with the appropriate Program Staff.
Specify certain hours for routine medical treatments or distribution of medications during the Summer Camp program.
Check daily sanitation in washrooms, outhouses, kitchen, and cabins.
Ensure that a high level of hygiene is maintained at camp at all times.
Act as a resource to Volunteer Staff and Volunteer Leaders for their First Aid requests.
Model enthusiastic, mature leadership to staff, campers, and volunteers.
Be sensitive to and strive toward fulfilling the Mission of Camp Grafton.
Document events, and submit a report and/or medical evaluation to the Camp Grafton Society.
Communicate emergency procedures and relevant medical/health information to all appropriate camp program staff.
Copy pertinent camp registration medical/health information in the Camp Summer Program Files.
Wage: $136/day
